Windstar: Ships, staterooms and 2026–2027 sailings

Small ships, some of them under sail · Three sailing yachts · five all-suite motor yachts

Windstar is the small-ship line in this tier: three sailing yachts with working sails, and all-suite motor yachts that never carry more than 312 guests.

The fleet comes in two kinds. The sailing yachts are Wind Star and Wind Spirit, four masts and 148 guests each, and Wind Surf, five masts and 342 guests, which Windstar calls the largest sailing ship in the world. The motor yachts are all-suite: Star Pride, Star Breeze and Star Legend at 312 guests, and two new builds at 224, Star Seeker, sailing since December 2025, and Star Explorer, whose first season begins in December 2026.

The base fare covers the ship, all meals including the specialty restaurants, 24-hour room service, soft drinks, specialty coffee and tea, the marina's kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear on select voyages, and Open Bridge visits. Alcohol, Wi-Fi, taxes and port fees, excursions and a hotel service charge of USD 16 per guest per day are extra. Windstar's optional All-In Package covers Wi-Fi, select drinks and gratuities for USD 99 per guest per day bought ahead, USD 109 on board, and seven of the eight sailings below came with it complimentary when we read them.

We list Windstar in the premium tier because the fare is not inclusive the way Seabourn's or Silversea's is, the entry rooms on the sailing yachts are 188 square feet, and the evening dress code is country-club rather than formal. What Windstar offers instead is the small ship itself: anchorages off islands such as Bequia and Mayreau, and, on select itineraries, a platform lowered at the stern so you can swim off the back of the ship.

It suits couples and friends who would rather sail into Bequia or Raiatea than share a big port with several large ships. It does not take children under eight, and anyone under 21 sails with an adult.

Fares are Windstar's own starting fare for each departure, per person at double occupancy, cruise only, in US dollars, in the lowest category, as read on 9 October 2026. Taxes, fees and port expenses are additional, and so are suggested onboard gratuities. We confirm which categories are open on your dates.

Booking this line

Choose the ship before the route. The sailing yachts give you the sails and the smallest numbers; the Star Class motor yachts give you suites and more space. Book the Owner's Suites and Wind Surf's two bridge-deck suites early, since there are only a handful on each ship. We price the All-In Package against what you will actually drink, and arrange flights and hotels either side.

Questions, answered

What is the best Windstar booking offer?

Judge any offer on what reaches you per suite. Booking through Via Privata, sailings of USD 40,000 or more carry a USD 1,500 onboard credit from us, on top of whatever the line itself is running for your dates and the consortium amenities the sailing qualifies for — at the same fare you would pay booking direct. Select voyages also carry a USD 150 per person shipboard credit through Virtuoso (USD 300 per stateroom), combinable with most Windstar promotions, and below USD 40,000 that is what booking through us adds. We confirm in writing exactly which benefits your dates carry before you commit.

What does the Windstar fare include, and what is the All-In Package?

The base fare covers the ship, all meals including the specialty restaurants, 24-hour room service, soft drinks and coffee, the marina's watersports gear on select voyages and Open Bridge visits. Alcohol, Wi-Fi, taxes and port fees, excursions and a USD 16 per guest per day hotel service charge are extra. The All-In Package adds Wi-Fi, select beer, wine and cocktails and gratuities for USD 99 per guest per day bought ahead, or USD 109 on board. Seven of the eight sailings on this page carried it as a complimentary promotion when we read them.

Sailing yacht or motor yacht?

The sailing yachts, Wind Star and Wind Spirit at 148 guests and Wind Surf at 342, are for the sails themselves: the rooms are smaller, 188 square feet in the standard category. The Star Class motor yachts are all-suite, 312 guests on Star Pride, Star Breeze and Star Legend and 224 on the new Star Seeker and Star Explorer, with more room and verandas or opening windows on the new pair.

Why is Windstar in your premium tier?

The ships are small, but the fare leaves drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities and port fees on top unless the All-In Package is added, and the standard rooms on the sailing yachts are compact. For an all-inclusive small ship, look at Seabourn or Silversea; for the sails, the marina and small anchorages at a lower fare, Windstar is the line.

Can we bring children?

Not under eight: Windstar does not take children younger than that. Guests under 21 must sail with a parent, guardian or chaperone aged at least 21, and the drinking age on board is 21.
