The original riverside grande dame, 150 years old in 2026 and refreshed by the renovation programme built around the anniversary. Writers and royalty have passed through the Authors' Lounge since the 1800s; Anne-Sophie Pic now holds two Michelin stars at Le Normandie; the Oriental Spa and the renovated fitness centre sit across the river, reached by the hotel's teak boats. We stayed three nights in August 2026: a classic, better value than the newer river hotels, and at 331 rooms a service style that is polite rather than personal. We book the River Wing balcony rooms and suites; the Ambassador Suite is the one in the original building.
