The Honest Comparison
Book direct, or book with an advisor?
The rate is identical either way — that surprises almost everyone. What changes is everything that arrives with it. Here is the side-by-side, with no fine print.
Benefits shown are typical of preferred-partner bookings at participating properties (Virtuoso, Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Rosewood Elite and similar programmes) and vary by hotel and availability.
How this is possible
The same rate, simply booked the right way
When you book direct or through a big travel site, you get exactly one thing: a room. The same rate everyone pays — with none of the recognition, none of the extras, and no one in your corner. The breakfast, the upgrade, the credit and the welcome that should come with a luxury stay quietly never arrive, simply because no one arranged for them.
Luxury hotels reserve their best treatment for guests introduced by advisors they trust. Through programmes such as Virtuoso, Four Seasons Preferred Partner and Rosewood Elite, the hotel compensates the advisor directly and extends the benefits to you — it is their way of recognising their most valuable guests. The rate is contractually the same as booking direct; the stay is not.
That is the entire model. No fees, no markup, no catch — just the same booking, made the right way, by an advisor who has often stayed at the hotel personally.
FAQ
Questions, Answered
Is it cheaper to book directly with the hotel or through a travel advisor?
Neither — the nightly rate is identical. Preferred-partner programmes require that advisors book the hotel's own flexible rate, the same one published on the hotel website. The difference is what comes attached to it: through an advisor you receive a room upgrade when available, daily breakfast for two, a hotel or spa credit, and VIP recognition — none of which arrive when you book direct or through a booking site.
How do travel advisors get paid if the service is free?
Hotels compensate advisors directly through their partner programmes — Virtuoso, Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Rosewood Elite, Mandarin Oriental Fan Club and others. It is a marketing cost the hotel carries, not a markup on your rate. You pay exactly what you would pay booking direct; we are paid by the hotel for bringing them a valued guest.
What benefits do I actually get booking through Via Privata?
At partner properties, a typical booking includes: daily breakfast for two (often worth $500+ across a stay), a USD 100 hotel, spa or dining credit, a room upgrade on arrival when available, early check-in and late checkout prioritised, and VIP flagging so the hotel knows you matter before you arrive. For honeymoons and celebrations, hotels are consistently more generous still.
Do you charge booking or planning fees?
No. Our service is entirely free to you — no booking fees, no planning fees, no membership. You pay the same rate you would find on the hotel's own website, and receive more for it.
What about Booking.com or other online travel sites?
Big booking sites often show the same rate too — but the stay is anonymous: no upgrade, no breakfast, no credit, and if something goes wrong, a call centre. Worse, hotels treat third-party-site bookings as their least valuable guests. An advisor booking is the opposite: you arrive flagged as a VIP with a named person in your corner throughout the trip.
