Capella Hanoi
Bensley's opera house in miniature — 47 rooms, each named for a real figure of the stage, opposite the Hanoi Opera House
The Privata Perspective
Forty-seven rooms is small even by Capella's standards, and that is the whole idea: Bill Bensley conceived it as a petite auberge for the performers of the Hanoi Opera House across the road. Every room is individually themed and named after a real opera or theatre figure, and the building holds over a thousand pieces of operatic memorabilia.
It is the most theatrical hotel in Vietnam by a distance, and the kind of design that either delights you or exhausts you — there is very little middle ground, and we will tell you honestly which camp we think you are in. Backstage has been Michelin Selected three years running and Hibana by Koki holds a star. The location, in Hoan Kiem facing the Opera House, is as central as Hanoi gets.
