What we book is The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort, Bahamas, on the north shore of Paradise Island. It opened in 1962 as a hideaway for the well-connected and joined the Four Seasons portfolio in 2017, and the older half of that history is still the point: gardens modelled on Versailles, a restored 12th-century Augustinian cloister, a white-sand beach. There are 107 accommodations: 90 guest rooms and 12 suites split between the garden-facing Hartford Wing and the oceanfront Crescent Wing, plus five villas and residences. DUNE by Jean-Georges is the principal restaurant, the spa runs to eight Balinese-style treatment villas, and guests have access to the adjacent Ocean Club golf course by Tom Weiskopf.
Paradise Island is 40 minutes from Nassau's airport and joined to the capital by bridge, so the arrival is easy; everything after that benefits from a plan. December to April is the dry, cooler high season — the most reliable sun, the calmest water and the busiest weeks over Christmas, New Year and Easter, when Paradise Island books out furthest ahead. May and early June are the sweet spot: still dry, noticeably quieter, and warm enough for everything. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest risk late in it; September and October are the months we steer clients away from.

Pick the wing before you pick the dates. The Crescent Wing is the beach hotel — its Luxury Oceanfront Rooms look straight down the lawn to the sand — while the Hartford Wing looks onto the gardens, which is the quieter half. Then give the trip a second act: the Exumas are a short hop by light aircraft or charter boat, and a day among the sandbars is what people remember. We book DUNE early; it fills before the room does.

Most trips arrive at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, which is well served from the American east coast and from Europe.
