St-Barthélemy — St-Barth to those who love it — is the Caribbean's most discreet luxury island: French in sensibility, barefoot in dress code, and ringed each winter by the yachts of the season. Its most refined address is Cheval Blanc St-Barth — the Isle de France of old, LVMH's Caribbean Maison since 2014 — set directly on the white sand of Baie des Flamands. St-Barth's high season is short and its best rooms few, so timing is everything: we book the Flamands-facing beachfront suites and the villa months ahead, and arrange the private tenders, beach-club tables and villa provisioning that define an island stay. Best Time to Visit
Mid-December to mid-April is the dry, reliable window, and the choices inside it differ sharply. The festive fortnight, roughly 20 December to 5 January, is the island at full volume and full price: rates around three times low season, minimum stays of seven nights standard and ten to fourteen at the most-wanted villas. January and February are calmer and just as dry. March and April are the value-for-weather pick — same sunshine, softer pricing — though the spring sailing regattas fill the island for a week at a time. Late April into June still works before the humidity builds. Then it shuts: hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November, and most hotels and restaurants close from late August through to mid-October, Cheval Blanc St-Barth included.
Insider Tips
The whole trip hinges on one connection. Gustaf III (SBH) takes only small aircraft, the approach over the hill is steep, and there are no landings after dark — so a transatlantic flight arriving into St Maarten (SXM) late in the afternoon strands you overnight on the wrong island. Clear SXM by mid-afternoon and allow three hours for the connection; the hop itself is about ten minutes. Baggage allowances on those aircraft are tight, and the ferry, around 45 minutes, is a fallback rather than a plan. Cheval Blanc St-Barth sits on Baie des Flamands, five minutes from the airstrip, which matters more than it sounds on arrival day. Book a small hire car when you book the room. The island is steep and narrow, and cars sell out before hotel rooms do in season.

December through April is the dry, breezy high season, peaking around the festive weeks and the January sailing regatta — glamorous, but the busiest and priciest. May, June and November are warm, quieter shoulder weeks with softer rates. The island effectively winds down in September and early October, when many places close.

Five to seven nights suits the island's unhurried rhythm — enough for beach days, a few of the celebrated restaurants, and a boat charter to a quiet cove.
