A honeymoon carries more expectation than any other trip, and the difference between a good one and an unforgettable one is almost never the destination — it is the specific hotel, the specific villa, and how the journey is paced. This list is our answer to the question we are asked most often, chosen from the properties where romance is built into the architecture.

The strongest honeymoons are usually twin-centre: a place of culture or drama first, then a place of pure rest — Kyoto then Bali, Sicily then the Riviera, Bangkok then the Maldives. Every property here is bookable with preferred-partner benefits (upgrades when available, breakfast, spa or resort credits), and hotels consistently treat honeymooners booked through an advisor generously — tell us your dates and we do the rest.

The Itinerary

Soneva Jani - Noonu Atoll, Maldives

Soneva Jani

$$$$$ · Noonu Atoll, Maldives

The single most requested honeymoon villa in the world, for good reason: vast overwater villas whose roofs retract at the touch of a button so you fall asleep under the stars, many with slides from the deck into a lagoon the colour of glass. Add an over-water cinema, an observatory, and the barefoot 'no news, no shoes' ethos — romance without stiffness.

Retractable roofs, water slides and a lagoon built for two — the definitive honeymoon overwater villa.

Book it for: Couples who want the iconic Maldives fantasy with a sense of fun.

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan - Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

$$$$$ · Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Crossing the teak bridge into Sayan's lotus-pond arrival remains one of travel's great entrances — and below, villas step down into the Ayung River valley amid rice terraces and jungle birdsong. Twice named the world's #1 hotel by Travel + Leisure, it is the romantic heart of Bali: private plunge pools, river-valley views and the Sacred River Spa.

A two-time #1 hotel in the world, floating over Bali's most romantic river valley.

Book it for: Couples who want jungle-and-river seclusion after the beach — or instead of it.

Cheval Blanc Randheli - Noonu Atoll, Maldives

Cheval Blanc Randheli

$$$$$ · Noonu Atoll, Maldives

For couples whose taste runs to fashion-house polish rather than barefoot rusticity, LVMH's Maison in the Maldives is the answer — around 45 vast contemporary villas, each with its own pool, a Guerlain Spa, and service tuned to near-invisible perfection. The four-bedroom Private Island, reached by its own jetty, is the ultimate honeymoon flex.

The Maldives at its most polished — French luxury-house romance on a private island.

Book it for: Design-led couples who want glamour and privacy in equal measure.

Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, Taormina - Taormina, Sicily, Italy

Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, Taormina

$$$$$ · Taormina, Sicily, Italy

A 14th-century convent on a Taormina clifftop, with Mount Etna on the horizon, the Greek theatre up the lane and an infinity pool suspended over the Ionian Sea. The White Lotus made it famous; the cloistered gardens, frescoed salons and Michelin dining make it genuinely romantic. Sicily's golden light does the rest.

Cinematic Sicily — a medieval convent turned clifftop palace above the Ionian Sea.

Book it for: Couples who want European drama, history and food as the honeymoon's first act.

Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat - Cap-Ferrat, French Riviera, France

Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat

$$$$$ · Cap-Ferrat, French Riviera, France

The Riviera's Belle Époque grande dame, on seventeen pine-shaded acres at the tip of the most exclusive peninsula in France. Days revolve around Club Dauphin, the legendary cliffside saltwater pool above the Mediterranean; evenings around champagne on the lawn. A century of lovers and film stars can't be wrong.

The definitive Riviera romance — gardens, glamour and the Med's most storied pool.

Book it for: Couples pairing Paris or Provence with a glamorous seaside finale.

Amanpuri - Phuket, Thailand

Amanpuri

$$$$$ · Phuket, Thailand

The original Aman, on a private coconut-palm headland above the Andaman Sea — Thai pavilions, a crescent of private beach, and a stillness that has drawn honeymooners since 1988. The wellness centre is among Asia's best, and the resort's yachts make a private sunset sail effortless.

The resort that invented Asian serenity — a private headland made for two.

Book it for: Couples who value calm, space and understatement over spectacle.

Belmond La Residencia - Deià, Mallorca, Spain

Belmond La Residencia

$$$$$ · Deià, Mallorca, Spain

Two 16th-century manor houses in Mallorca's most romantic village, on terraces of olive and citrus beneath the Tramuntana mountains. Art everywhere (Miró included), donkeys to walk you into the hills, and the village of Deià — long a refuge for poets and painters — at the door. Mediterranean romance in its most creative key.

An artists'-village hideaway in the Tramuntana — Mallorca at its most romantic.

Book it for: Creative couples who prefer olive groves and villages to beach clubs.

Six Senses Yao Noi - Koh Yao Noi, Phang Nga Bay, Thailand

Six Senses Yao Noi

$$$$ · Koh Yao Noi, Phang Nga Bay, Thailand

Hilltop pool villas gazing straight at the limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay — arguably the most romantic view in Southeast Asia. Breakfast arrives by your pool, sunset drinks happen at a treetop bar, and the island of Yao Noi itself remains sleepy and rural. Barefoot romance, big scenery.

Pool villas facing Phang Nga Bay's karsts — Southeast Asia's most romantic panorama.

Book it for: Couples who want dramatic scenery and privacy without formality.

Amankila - East Bali, Indonesia

Amankila

$$$$ · East Bali, Indonesia

On a hillside above the Lombok Strait in quiet East Bali, Amankila's three-tiered infinity pool — the most photographed in the Aman world — cascades toward the sea like the rice terraces it echoes. Thatched suites on stilts, a near-private beach club below the cliff, and Bali's sacred east on the doorstep.

The original three-tier infinity pool, in Bali's serene, sacred east.

Book it for: Couples who want Bali's romance far from the crowds of the south.

Aman Kyoto - Takagamine, Kyoto, Japan

Aman Kyoto

$$$$$ · Takagamine, Kyoto, Japan

Hidden in a secret moss garden at the foot of Kyoto's northern hills, invisible from any road, Aman Kyoto is the most quietly romantic hotel in Japan — minimalist pavilions in a forest, an open-air onsen among mossy boulders, and the temples of the old capital minutes away. Winter steam, spring blossom, autumn fire: every season is a different honeymoon.

A secret garden in Kyoto — Japan's most romantic address, in any season.

Book it for: Couples opening the honeymoon with culture, ritual and profound calm.

Timing

When to Book

Honeymoons book earlier than any other trip because the dates are fixed the moment the wedding is. For peak windows — the Maldives and Southeast Asia from December to April, the Mediterranean from June to September, Kyoto in cherry-blossom spring or autumn foliage — reserve the specific villa 6–9 months ahead, and up to a year for Christmas, New Year or Easter honeymoons. Tell us the wedding date and we will hold the strongest villas across two or three candidate itineraries while you decide.

FAQ

Questions, Answered

Where are the best honeymoon destinations for 2026?

The Maldives remains the definitive honeymoon destination — Soneva Jani's retractable-roof overwater villas are the most requested rooms in the world — followed by Bali (Four Seasons Sayan, Amankila), Sicily and the French Riviera for European romance, and Kyoto for couples who want culture and calm before the beach.

How far in advance should we book a honeymoon?

Six to nine months for peak seasons — the Maldives and Southeast Asia in December–April, the Mediterranean in summer, Kyoto in blossom or foliage season — and up to a year for Christmas or New Year. The specific villa matters more than the resort on a honeymoon, and the best ones sell out first.

Is a twin-centre honeymoon better than one resort?

Usually, yes. Ten days in one resort — even a great one — can sag in the middle. The pairing that consistently works: three or four nights of culture or drama (Kyoto, Sicily, Paris, Bangkok) followed by five to seven nights of pure rest (the Maldives, Bali, the Riviera). One long-haul flight, two completely different honeymoons.
