There is no such thing as a bad beach in the Maldives — which is precisely why choosing a resort is so hard. Every island promises white sand, a turquoise lagoon and an over-water villa. What separates the ten below is everything else: the house reef, the design, the food, the wellness, the service, and the atoll you fly (or sail) to reach.

We have grouped no atolls artificially here — this is simply the ten we send our clients to most, from the LVMH polish of Cheval Blanc Randheli to the barefoot pioneers of Soneva. Almost all are reached by scenic seaplane over the atolls; several sit alone on their own private island. Every one is bookable with preferred-partner benefits — upgrades, resort credits and often a complimentary night — at the same rate you would pay direct.

Timing

When to Book

The Maldives' dry northeast-monsoon season (roughly December–April) is peak, with the best over-water villas and family villas booking 6–9 months ahead — and a year out for Christmas, New Year and Easter. Manta season in Baa Atoll (Hanifaru Bay) peaks around June–November, when rates soften. Seaplane transfers only operate in daylight, so we plan flights and islands together. We confirm live rates and hold the strongest villa the moment you enquire.

FAQ

Questions, Answered

Which is the best resort in the Maldives?

There is no single answer — the honest one is that it depends on your priorities. For luxury-house polish, Cheval Blanc Randheli; for barefoot character and fun, Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani; for space and families, One&Only Reethi Rah; for wellness and marine life, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru in the Baa Atoll biosphere; for total exclusivity, Velaa Private Island. A good advisor matches the island to you — that is the entire point of this list.

When is the best time to go to the Maldives?

December to April is the dry season and peak — calm seas, blue skies, and the best villas booking 6–9 months ahead (a year for Christmas and New Year). May to November brings brief tropical rains, softer rates, and the manta season in the Baa Atoll's Hanifaru Bay, which peaks roughly June–November.

Should I choose an overwater villa or a beach villa?

The classic answer is a split stay: a few nights on the beach (better for families, direct sand access, usually larger gardens) and a few over the water for the iconic experience. Overwater villas at Soneva Jani — with retractable roofs and slides into the lagoon — are the most spectacular expression of the type.
