Four Seasons Resort Lanai
A 213-key cliffside resort over the marine preserve at Hulopoe Bay, on a former pineapple island Four Seasons has run since 2005
The Privata Perspective
Lanai is a former pineapple island, and the resort stands on the cliff above Hulopoe Bay, a protected marine preserve, twenty-five minutes by air from Honolulu. The building opened in 1991; Four Seasons has managed it since October 2005, and TAL Studio's interiors are the newer layer over older bones. Two hundred and thirteen keys, 168 rooms and 45 suites.
Aspect decides the rest. The 77 Garden-View rooms and the 30 Ocean-View rooms share one footprint, 663–734 square feet with a private lanai, so the category buys outlook and position rather than floor space. Only thirteen Prime Oceanfront rooms sit square on the water.
We book it for travellers who want Hawaii without the crowd — the island runs to a plantation town, with shuttles into it and uplands for hiking, archery and clay shooting. April to June and September to November are the quiet weeks; winter brings whale season and the highest rates. Prime Oceanfront is the request we make the day a booking is confirmed.
