The Privata Perspective

Four Seasons opened here in December 2003, purpose-built at the foot of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort rather than converted from something older. Hill Glazier drew the building, Wimberly Interiors the rooms. The hotel counts 124 keys — 106 rooms and 18 suites — and the 32 resort residences sit outside that number.

Aspect decides the stay, because size mostly does not. Mountain-Side and Valley-Side rooms all run 550 square feet; only the thirteen Resort Rooms differ, at 500. The names are literal — one side looks up at the runs, the other down the valley — and Valley-Side is the bigger block at fifty-three keys. Above them, four Mountain-View One-Bedroom Suites.

We book it for ski weeks, for families who want the lift out the door rather than a drive away, and for September and October, when the valley turns colour and the rates ease. Winter dates go early — the Christmas and Presidents' weeks are spoken for by summer — so we hold rooms first and refine the category later.

Accommodations

Resort Room

500 sq.ft. 46 m²

Thirteen of them, the smallest category the hotel sells and the only one under 550 square feet

Valley-Side Room

550 sq.ft. 51 m²

Fifty-three keys plus six accessible versions — the largest single block in the house, at the same footprint as the mountain-facing rooms

Mountain-View One-Bedroom Suite

1,100 sq.ft. 102 m²

Four only, and the largest of the three one-bedroom suites — the portal also lists a valley-view and a resort one-bedroom at smaller footprints

Presidential Suite

2,200 sq.ft. 204 m²

One of one, and the largest true hotel key on the property; everything with a bigger floorplan is a residence, not a room

Dining

Steadfire Chophouse

Mountain steakhouse

The resort's sit-down dinner room, and the one to reserve at the same time as the ski dates

The Handle Bar

American pub and beer hall

The loudest room in the house and the one that fills at the end of the ski day

Ascent Lounge

Pan-Asian

Filed by the operator under Lounges rather than Restaurants — thirty-eight seats indoors on the press fact sheet

80 Proof

Cocktail bar

The portal lists it as a cocktail bar, the operator's press room as a speakeasy with small plates

First Chair Grab & Go

Grab-and-go market

The market by the door for coffee and breakfast before the first lift

Spa & Wellness

The spa runs to 11,685 square feet (1,085 square metres) and sixteen treatment rooms, two of them private suites with a Swiss shower, fireplace and deep soaking tub. Separate men's and women's tranquility lounges have fireplaces; treatments also come to the room.

When to Go

Dec–Mar

Ski season — the reason the hotel sits where it does; the holiday weeks go first

Sep–Oct

Autumn in the valley — aspens turning, the parks quiet, and the easiest weeks to hold a suite
