Luxury Alaska Cruises 2027 Compared: Viking, Regent, Silversea, Seabourn, Ritz-Carlton and Explora

Six lines sail Alaska in 2027 that I would put a client on. I compare the ships, the routes, the fares as the lines published them this month and what each fare leaves out, and tell you which one I would book.

All Collections

Alaska is the one cruise where the ship is not the main event. The glaciers, the Inside Passage and what you do ashore are the trip; the ship decides how comfortably you see them, how many people you share the view with and how much of the bill is settled before you board.

Six lines sail Alaska in 2027 that I would book for a client. One of them, Viking, sits in what we call our premium tier. The other five are ultra-luxury lines. This guide compares them on the same terms, with the fares each line's own booking system showed on 9 October 2026, and says plainly what the extra money buys.

My verdict

In Alaska in 2027, the step up from Viking to an ultra-luxury suite costs less than most people expect. Silversea's lowest suite on a seven-night Silver Moon sailing in July was USD 5,500 per person when I read it, about USD 790 a night against roughly USD 710 for Viking's lowest open stateroom on its ten-night Seward to Vancouver route. For that difference you get a suite with a butler, drinks all day and the gratuities paid.

So my default for a couple is Silversea on Silver Moon, in a Classic Veranda Suite: a veranda for the glaciers, a butler and a ship of 596 guests. If the excursions are the point, and in Alaska they often are, I would choose Regent, the only line here whose fare includes unlimited shore excursions from its own programme; only its premium Regent Choice experiences cost extra. For a yacht rather than a ship, the Ritz-Carlton's Luminara. For the most nights at the lowest fare, Viking, with eyes open about what the fare leaves on top.

  • Best value suite: Silversea, Silver Moon, Vancouver to Seward
  • Unlimited excursions included: Regent Seven Seas, Seven Seas Explorer
  • The yacht: Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Luminara
  • Luxury with an expedition edge: Seabourn Encore, with optional Zodiac and kayak outings
  • Space and the newest ship: Explora III, in her first Alaska season
  • Ten nights at a premium fare: Viking Orion or Viking Venus

Book the veranda. In Alaska it is the room.

Fares per person at double occupancy, in US dollars; a suite for two costs double. Silversea, Seabourn, Ritz-Carlton and Explora as each line's booking data showed them on 9 October 2026; Viking as its own site showed them that day, during its Fall Sale; Regent as published when we read rssc.com on 30 August 2026, when the entry category was already on wait-list. Explora's promotional fares apply to new bookings made by 28 October 2026; read again on 11 October 2026, the 9 July sailing was still open at the same fare. Fares and availability move constantly: the figures here are a dated snapshot, and when you enquire we quote what is open on your dates.

Per night, Silversea starts lowest of the ultra-luxury lines here, and Luminara highest: about USD 1,490 per person a night, for 452 guests on a yacht. Viking is the only line here whose entry-level accommodation is a stateroom rather than a suite, and the only one that adds gratuities and drinks beyond mealtimes to the bill.

The Six Lines

Viking Ocean Cruises

Premium tier · Seward to Vancouver, 10 nights

$$$ · Viking Orion · Viking Venus

Viking runs Alaska on two sister ships, Viking Orion and Viking Venus, between Seward and Vancouver; the 2027 departures run from 24 May to 11 September. At ten nights it is longer than the seven-night routes most of the others sail, and it calls at Valdez and sails past Hubbard Glacier before Icy Strait Point, Skagway, Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan.

The ships carry 930 guests, adults only, with no casino and a veranda in every stateroom. The fare includes an excursion in every port, all meals including the alternative restaurants, beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, and Wi-Fi. Gratuities and the Silver Spirits package, USD 27 per night, are extra.

On the late-August departures we read the same day, the lowest suite was USD 9,999 per person against USD 7,099 for the lowest open stateroom. We book Viking at Viking's own fares.

Book it for: adults who want ten nights in Alaska, an excursion in every port and a calm, well-run ship.

Think twice if: you want a suite, drinks all day and the gratuities paid; the ultra-luxury lines below cost less extra than you might think.

Regent Seven Seas

Unlimited excursions in the fare

$$$$$ · Seven Seas Explorer

Regent's Alaska season is short, on Seven Seas Explorer, with Hubbard Glacier as the set piece; the sailing we list runs from Vancouver to Whittier in late May. The ship carries 746 guests in all-balcony suites.

What makes Regent the Alaska choice for some clients is the fare. Unlimited shore excursions from Regent's included programme come with the fare, along with every restaurant, unlimited drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi and valet laundry; the premium, smaller-group Regent Choice experiences carry a supplement. In a region where the floatplanes, the wildlife boats and the glacier walks are the reason to go, that changes the arithmetic.

One caution. When we read Regent's fares, the entry category on this sailing was already on wait-list, so the real question is which suite is open on your dates. Regent starts the one-night pre-cruise hotel package at Concierge level, and opens its Air Concierge flights 270 days before sailing for those suites rather than 240.

Book it for: couples who want Alaska's excursions handled and the bill closed before they board.

Think twice if: you want a small ship; at 746 guests Explorer is a large one for this list.

Silversea

The best value suite

$$$$ · Silver Moon · Silver Whisper

Silversea sails Alaska weekly with two ships through the summer of 2027: Silver Moon (596 guests) and the smaller Silver Whisper (392), mostly between Vancouver and Seward, the port for Anchorage, with some fourteen-night Vancouver roundtrips on Whisper.

Every suite on every Silversea ship has a butler, and the fare covers dining, wines and spirits, gratuities and Wi-Fi. On the 8 July Silver Moon sailing, from Vancouver through the Inside Passage to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Hubbard Glacier, the Vista Suite started at USD 5,500 per person and the Classic Veranda Suite, 387 sq ft, at USD 6,000.

Those are Silversea's lowest fares, with a non-refundable deposit. The Plus fare adds a refundable deposit and a shore-excursion credit, for USD 300 per person more on that suite.

Book it for: couples who want a butler, an open bar and a veranda at a fare close to Viking's.

Think twice if: you want the excursions in the fare; that is Regent.

Seabourn

Luxury with an expedition edge

$$$$ · Seabourn Encore

Seabourn Encore makes eighteen Alaska departures between May and September 2027, mostly seven nights between Vancouver and Juneau, with some fourteen-night Vancouver roundtrips. She carries 600 guests, every suite faces the sea, and the fare covers premium spirits and fine wines, caviar, every restaurant and Starlink Wi-Fi. Seabourn's own wording is that tipping is neither required nor expected. An expedition team of naturalists sails with her in Alaska, and Ventures by Seabourn runs optional Zodiac and kayak outings from the ship's own boats, charged separately.

On the 9 July sailing the lowest open suite was a Veranda Suite at USD 7,773 per person, taxes and fees included, and the Penthouse Suites were already sold out. For a July Penthouse, I would secure it as soon as the dates open.

Note the end port. A Juneau departure means a flight out of Juneau rather than Vancouver or Anchorage.

Book it for: couples who want classic luxury on board and the option of getting closer to Alaska by Zodiac or kayak.

Think twice if: you want a Penthouse in high summer and have not booked yet.

A Terrace Suite aboard Ilma, Luminara's sister yacht, the bed facing sliding doors onto the private terrace

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

The yacht

$$$$$ · Luminara

Luminara carries the Ritz-Carlton's Alaska season, on Vancouver and Whittier turnarounds from late May to September 2027, with 226 suites, every one with its own terrace. She is the newest of the three yachts and has the expanded marina.

The fare covers dining, a selection of wines and spirits chosen by the line, gratuities, Starlink Wi-Fi and port fees. Shore excursions, Seta su Luminara and spa treatments are extra.

On the 20 July Vancouver roundtrip, past the Tracy Arm Glacier, the Terrace Suite started at USD 11,900 per person and the Grand Suite at USD 21,900, with 29 Grand Suites still open. Marriott Bonvoy members earn points on the cruise fare.

Book it for: couples who want a yacht's scale and style in Alaska, and Bonvoy loyalists.

Think twice if: price per night matters most; Luminara starts highest here.

Explora Journeys

The newest ship, in her first Alaska season

$$$$ · Explora III

Explora III sails Alaska for the first time in summer 2027, from Vancouver roundtrip and between Vancouver and Seward. She is the newest ship in this comparison, with 461 ocean-front suites, every one with a terrace.

The fare includes nine dining experiences, unlimited drinks, Wi-Fi and onboard gratuities. The shore programme, which Explora calls Destination Experiences, is sold separately.

On the 9 July Seward to Vancouver sailing, through the Endicott Arm to Dawes Glacier and the Tracy Arm Fjord, the Ocean Terrace Suite was USD 6,825 per person and the Ocean Grand Terrace Suite USD 7,160, both on Explora's current promotion for new bookings made by 28 October 2026. Read again on 11 October 2026, the sailing was still open at those fares.

Book it for: couples who like a resort hotel's space and choice, on a brand-new ship.

Think twice if: you want a small ship, or the excursions included.

Getting there and back

Most of the sailings compared here are one-way

Vancouver at one end; Seward or Whittier, the ports for Anchorage, at the other; on Seabourn, Juneau. That means open-jaw flights, into one city and home from the other, and a transfer between Anchorage and the ship. We plan them as one booking with the cruise, so the times line up.

A night before you board

I would never fly in on sailing day for a voyage like this. A delayed connection into Anchorage or Vancouver costs you the ship. One night before boarding is the cheapest insurance on the trip; two if you are crossing an ocean to get there.

Viking's timing

Viking boards you in Seward on day one and sails on day two at five in the afternoon, so your first night is aboard in port. At the other end the ship docks in Vancouver at seven in the morning, which gives you a full day in the city.

Where to stay

We do not publish hotel pages for Vancouver, Anchorage or Juneau, and we book the hotel nights there as part of the trip all the same. If you would like the mountains after the sea, Four Seasons Whistler is in its green months in July and August, and makes a good few days after a sailing that ends in Vancouver.

Which suite, line by line

Viking: the Penthouse Junior Suite

405 sq ft on Orion and Venus, with a sitting area, earlier embarkation and priority restaurant reservations. Every Viking stateroom has a veranda, so the step up buys space rather than a view.

Regent: the Concierge Suite

It is where the pre-cruise hotel night and the earlier air window begin. On the Explorer class it measures 38.6 to 43.1 sq m.

Silversea: the Classic Veranda Suite, or the Silver Suite

The Classic Veranda Suite gives you the veranda at 387 sq ft. For a longer stay in the room, the Silver Suite at 786 sq ft started at USD 10,500 per person on the same July sailing.

Seabourn: the Veranda Suite, and early

246 to 302 sq ft with a veranda of 68 to 83. On the 9 July departure we checked, the Penthouse Suites, 436 sq ft, were already sold out nine months before sailing. For a July Penthouse, I would book as soon as the dates open.

Ritz-Carlton: the Grand Suite

Our usual recommendation for a couple on Luminara: dual walk-in closets, a dining area and a terrace large enough to eat breakfast on. USD 21,900 per person on 20 July.

Explora: the Ocean Grand Terrace Suite

An 11 sq m terrace with a dining table as well as a daybed, for USD 335 per person more than the Ocean Terrace Suite on 9 July.

What booking through us adds

The fare is the line's own, the same as booking direct. On Regent, Silversea, Seabourn, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Explora, bookings of USD 40,000 or more carry a USD 1,500 onboard credit per suite, funded by Via Privata. Below that, the applicable Virtuoso amenities apply where the sailing carries them, and we confirm the benefits for your exact sailing in writing before you book. On the Ritz-Carlton, the line's STARS or Virtuoso Voyages amenities apply, and Marriott Bonvoy points are earned either way.

In Alaska, the credit starts with the larger suites: the Grand Suite on Luminara came to USD 43,800 for two on 20 July, the Signature Suite on Seabourn Encore to USD 43,196 on 9 July.

Viking is booked at Viking's own fare, and we add no credit to it. What we do is plan the trip around the sailing: the open-jaw flights, the nights before and after, and the stateroom by deck and position.

When to Book

The season runs from late May to mid-September. June to August is the busiest stretch: on the Seabourn sailing we read for 9 July 2027, the Penthouse Suites were already sold out nine months ahead. For summer 2027, book now. May and September are quieter.

FAQ

Questions, Answered

Which luxury cruise line is best for Alaska?

It depends on what you want included. Regent Seven Seas includes unlimited shore excursions from its own programme, which matters in Alaska more than almost anywhere; its premium Regent Choice experiences cost extra. Silversea gives you a butler in every suite at the lowest suite fare of the ultra-luxury lines: on a seven-night Silver Moon sailing in July 2027 it started at USD 5,500 per person. The Ritz-Carlton's Luminara is the yacht, Seabourn Encore the all-suite ship with an expedition team and optional Zodiac and kayak outings, and Explora III the newest. Viking is our premium-tier option: ten nights between Seward and Vancouver from USD 7,099 per person, with gratuities and drinks beyond mealtimes extra.

How much does a luxury Alaska cruise cost in 2027?

On the summer 2027 sailings we read on 9 October 2026, per person at double occupancy: Silversea from USD 5,500 for seven nights, Explora from USD 6,825 (promotional), Regent from USD 6,999 (entry category on wait-list), Viking from USD 7,099 for ten nights, Seabourn from USD 7,773 and the Ritz-Carlton's Luminara from USD 11,900 for eight nights. A suite for two costs double. Larger suites run to USD 20,000 per person and more.

Is Viking a luxury cruise line?

We place Viking in our premium tier rather than ultra-luxury. Its ships carry 930 guests, its entry-level accommodation is a stateroom rather than a suite, and gratuities and drinks beyond mealtimes are paid on top. It is also adults only, calm and very well run, and its ten-night Seward to Vancouver route is longer than most of the others. We book it at Viking's own fares.

Which way is better: Vancouver to Alaska, or Alaska to Vancouver?

Direction matters less than the exact itinerary: compare the glacier, the port calls and the time in each port first, then choose northbound or southbound around your flights and land plans. Ending in Vancouver gives you a full day in the city and easy connections home, while ending in Seward or Whittier means a transfer to Anchorage. On Viking's route north to south, the ship docks in Vancouver at seven in the morning.

Which month is best for an Alaska cruise?

The season runs from late May to mid-September. June to August are the peak months; May and September are quieter. On the lines here, the summer suites sell first, so for July and August 2027 we would book now.

Do I get an onboard credit on an Alaska cruise?

On Regent, Silversea, Seabourn, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Explora, bookings of USD 40,000 or more carry a USD 1,500 onboard credit per suite from Via Privata, at the fare you would pay booking direct. Below that, the applicable Virtuoso amenities apply where the sailing carries them, confirmed in writing for your exact sailing. Viking bookings are made at Viking's own fare, with no credit from us.
