Jamaica invented Caribbean resort glamour — Noël Coward and Ian Fleming wintered here, the Kennedys honeymooned here, and the island's grande-dame resorts have kept a personality that newer islands never grew. Direct flights from the US East Coast make it the easiest serious-luxury hop in the Caribbean.
The classics cluster around Montego Bay: Round Hill, open since 1953, where Ralph Lauren designed the oceanfront rooms and 27 storied villas dot a 110-acre peninsula, and Half Moon, a 400-acre estate on a two-mile crescent beach renewed by its Eclipse wing, which opened in 2020. On the quieter north coast, GoldenEye — Ian Fleming's own estate, where every Bond novel was written — is now the island's most characterful barefoot resort. Hurricane Melissa closed both Montego Bay resorts in October 2025: Round Hill reopened on 8 December 2025, and Half Moon reopened Eclipse and its villas on 2 April 2026, with its Founders Cove rooms scheduled for a second phase later in 2026.

December to April is the dry, breezy peak — the classic Caribbean window. May and June offer shoulder value before the summer rains; hurricane season officially runs June to November, with September and October the months to avoid. Sea temperatures are swimmable year-round.
