The Ritz-Carlton O‘ahu, Turtle Bay
The former Turtle Bay Resort, a Ritz-Carlton since July 2024: 450 keys, 42 of them waterfront Ocean Bungalows, on over 1,100 oceanfront acres of the North Shore
The Privata Perspective
This is the former Turtle Bay Resort, which became The Ritz-Carlton O‘ahu, Turtle Bay on 31 July 2024, when Host Hotels & Resorts bought it and moved management to Marriott. It sits in Kahuku on the North Shore, near the Banzai Pipeline and roughly an hour's drive from Honolulu and Waikiki: over 1,100 oceanfront acres, five miles of coastline and seven beaches within walking distance. Rooms, bungalows, lobby and spa were renovated, and a new club lounge added, before the change of flag.
There are 450 keys, and the 42 Ocean Bungalows are the ones to ask for: 740 square feet, a Bungalow Host, private entrances to the shoreline and a vanishing-edge Tranquility Pool kept for bungalow guests alone. The Oceanfront Club rooms and suites sit on the top floor with access to The Ritz-Carlton Club and its five daily food and beverage presentations. Families who need a kitchen should look at the Ocean Villas, with three or four bedrooms, steps from the main resort.
We book it for clients who want the North Shore itself rather than a view of it: the Arnold Palmer course, the Stables, kayaking across Kawela Bay to spot honu, a first surf lesson. Choose the season by what you want from the sea. November to February brings the big waves; from May to September the water calms for swimming.
