The Privata Perspective

Ko Olina sits on Oahu's sunset west coast, thirty minutes from the airport and thirty-five from downtown Honolulu — close enough to reach Waikiki, far enough that you never hear it. The building went up in 1998 as somebody else's hotel, to Edward Killingsworth's design; Four Seasons opened it under its own flag in 2016 after Philpotts Interiors reworked the interiors. Three hundred and seventy keys.

Aspect decides the stay, because floor space does not. Every standard category runs to the same 640 square feet with an 86-square-foot balcony, so the premium buys the view: garden, resort, partial ocean, or the oceanfront block of 156 rooms. Above them sit the studio suites at 1,000 square feet and a single 3,200-square-foot Penthouse.

We book it for families who want a beach and a kids' club without a second flight, and for couples who want the adults-only pool. Shoulder months either side of the school holidays hold the best value. Mina's Fish House is reserved with the room, not on arrival.

Accommodations

Average of 640 sq.ft. 59 m²; Balcony average of 86 sq.ft. 8 m²

Eighteen keys at the garden end of the house — the same floor area as every other standard room, at the bottom of the ladder

Oceanfront Room

Average of 640 sq.ft. 59 m²; Balcony average of 86 sq.ft. 8 m²

One hundred and fifty-six of them, the largest single block in the resort and the category most people come for

Oceanfront Studio Suite

Average of 1,000 sq.ft. 92 m²; Balcony average of 86 sq.ft. 8 m²

Seventeen studios, and the first real step up in floor space while staying on the ocean side

Penthouse Suite

3,200 sq.ft. 297 m²; Balcony measures 800 sq.ft. 74 m²

One only, and the biggest key we quote here — the balcony alone measures 800 square feet
