The Oberoi Udaivilas opened in 2002 on the banks of Lake Pichola, directly across the water from Udaipur's City Palace, on what the hotel describes as the 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar. It is laid out like a Rajasthani palace across 30 acres: domes and walkways joined one to the next, courtyards with fountains, reflecting pools and gardens running down to the lake. It holds two MICHELIN Keys, and in 2025 the readers of Condé Nast Traveller India ranked it first in the country for design.
Via Privata stayed in February 2024, after Amanbagh, on a journey through northern India. The architecture, the gardens and the lake view are the reasons to come, and peacocks roam the lawns and terraces. Spa and wellness at The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur
The spa, run since October 2025 under Asmi by Oberoi, the hotel's current wellness concept, is for resident guests aged 16 and over: a phone- and Wi-Fi-free space with private treatment rooms and couples' suites, where the signature massage uses warm kasa bowls (book 24 hours ahead). The hotel has two temperature-controlled pools with Mughal-inspired design, the 27-metre main pool and an adults-only spa pool. The fitness centre is in the spa building, with daily yoga, private sessions on request and a tennis court.
