Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur
Built with the Petronas Twin Towers on the old racecourse that became KLCC Park: Corner Park View Rooms over the park and the pool, Lai Po Heen and the Mandarin Grill, and Suria KLCC thirty seconds from the lobby
The Privata Perspective
Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur opened in October 1998 beside the Petronas Twin Towers, on the former racecourse that is now KLCC Park, with 570 rooms, 20 suites and 39 serviced apartments. It is a grand hotel of the old school: burnished wood, marble and crystal, a fan emblem that gathers Malay, Chinese and Indian motifs around the hibiscus, and rooms whose style, and compact marble bathrooms, belong to an earlier generation of grand hotels. We stayed four nights in December 2025 in a Corner Park View Room, 48 square metres over the park and the pool, and would book it again; the concierge secured our dinners at Sushi Masa and Nadodi. The address makes the case: KLCC Park at the door, the towers beside it, and Suria KLCC with its train station a few minutes' walk away.
