Four Seasons Resort Langkawi
A Bensley and Bunnag resort on the north-eastern cape of Tanjung Rhu, along a mile of private Andaman beach
The Privata Perspective
Four Seasons Langkawi opened in May 2005 to a design by Bill Bensley and Lek Bunnag, and the architecture is the argument. It sits on the north-eastern cape of Tanjung Rhu on the Andaman Sea, with a mile of sugar-sand beach kept private and limestone rising behind. Ninety-two keys — sixty-eight pavilions and twenty-four villas — spread along it.
The category decides the stay. The garden-view pavilions are the volume rooms at 68 square metres and they look at gardens, not water; the villas are where the private pool and the beach arrive, and the Royal and Imperial categories are compounds rather than rooms. If sand outside the door is the point, we start at villa level.
We book it for families and for couples who want a beach resort rather than a jungle one — the Ritz-Carlton along the coast is the jungle answer. November to March is the dry window. Geo Spa treatments use ila, and we reserve those with the room, not on arrival.
