The Privata Perspective

Four Seasons has been on the Punta Mita peninsula since September 1999 — a 52-acre nature preserve of its own on Bahía de Banderas, drawn by Diego Villaseñor with Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo. Two Jack Nicklaus courses sit behind it, and the Pacifico's third hole, Tail of the Whale, is the only natural island hole in golf.

One hundred and seventy-seven keys, 139 rooms and 38 suites; the villas, residences and beach homes are counted separately. Four of the five casita types share one 60-square-metre footprint, indoor and outdoor together, so aspect and a plunge pool are all that separate them. The one-bedroom plunge-pool suites more than double that at 151 square metres.

We book it for families and for golfers, and for anyone who wants a Pacific resort with real infrastructure behind it — ten tennis courts, five restaurants, a thirteen-room spa. December to April is the dry, settled stretch and the one to book early; the summer months are hotter and wetter, and priced accordingly.

Accommodations

Garden Casita

60 m² 645 sq.ft. of indoor and outdoor space

Thirty-three of them, the entry category, on the same footprint as the ocean and oceanfront casitas

Ocean Casita

60 m² 645 sq.ft. of indoor and outdoor space

Seventy-nine keys, the largest single block here — the identical footprint turned toward the water

Oceanfront Plunge Pool Suite (One Bedroom)

151 m² 1,625 sq.ft.

Nine of them, with a plunge pool and the operator's oceanfront aspect rather than an ocean view

Ocean Plunge Pool Suite (Two Bedroom)

211 m² 2,270 sq.ft.

One only, and the largest hotel key on the property — everything above it is a villa, residence or beach home, let separately

Dos Catrinas

Mexican

The Mexican kitchen, and the venue the press sheet names first of the resort's restaurants

Tail of the Whale

One of five lounges the portal lists, alongside Mez, the Nuna and Tamai pool bars and The Shack

Spa & Wellness

Apuane Spa draws on pre-Hispanic Mexico — copal, nopal and agave worked into myofascial massage. Thirteen treatment rooms, hot and cold hydrotherapy pools, ice fountains, eucalyptus steam rooms and saunas, plus a couples' suite with its own sauna and patio. No floor area is published.
