The Privata Perspective
One&Only Mandarina opened on 1 November 2020 on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit, about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, where Studio Rick Joy and Studio CABAN designed 105 treehouses and villas in the coastal rainforest and along the cliffs above the Pacific. The MICHELIN Guide gives it Three Keys, its top rating. It shares the wider Mandarina development, including the golf course and the polo and equestrian club, with Rosewood Mandarina.
Every treehouse and villa has its own pool, and the setting decides the stay: a Treehouse is suspended in the rainforest canopy (children from age 10 only), a Cliff Villa sits along the forested cliffs, and families who outgrow those should look at Villa Tortuga, two bedrooms for up to eight with ocean views. We point guests to Carao, chef Enrique Olvera's cliffside restaurant, and to The Treetop, perched above the waves, for a cocktail; Alma cooks relaxed Mediterranean menus from home-grown produce, and Jetty Beach Club covers the beach.
The Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club runs lessons and jungle-to-ocean trail rides, with matches nearly every weekend from November to March, and Greg Norman's par-3 course plays nine holes plus an extra challenge hole. One&Only Spa uses Tata Harper products; ask for the three-day Mandarina Reset if you have the time. Whale watching is best from December to March.
