Rosewood Mandarina
Rosewood's fourth Mexican property, opened in 2025 on Canalan Beach: 134 suites and villas across mountain, beach and flatlands, every one with a private plunge pool
The Privata Perspective
Rosewood Mandarina opened in 2025 on Canalan Beach, a 50-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta's airport, as Rosewood's fourth property in Mexico. It was nearly a decade in the making for its owner, RLH Properties, and it shares the Mandarina development with One&Only Mandarina. Every one of its 134 suites and villas has a private plunge pool, and Caroline Meersseman of Bando x Seidel Meersseman led the design.
The setting decides the stay. Suites sit on the mountain with ocean views, along the Canalan beachfront, or on the agrarian flatlands at the resort's heart. Couples should take the mountain: the Ocean View Mountain Suite pairs a far-reaching Pacific view with a deep soaking bathtub and a large terrace. Families do better in the two-bedroom Poolside Villa, within walking distance of the beach, the adult and family pool clubs and the restaurants.
We book it for families who want more than a beach, with the Rosewood Explorers kids' club, private polo lessons at the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club and a nine-hole Greg Norman par-3 course. Reserve Toppu, the signature restaurant at the top of the mountain, and take a sunset drink at Barra Peñasco on the cliff. November to March brings polo most weekends, and whale season on this coast runs mid-December to the end of March.
