The Privata Perspective

Edward Durell Stone finished this tower in 1968, and it has carried a National Register of Historic Places listing since 2014. Four Seasons opened inside it in 2021 with Bill Rooney Studio interiors — 276 rooms and 65 suites standing where Canal Street meets the Mississippi. The 92 residences are counted separately and are not hotel keys.

The view decides the stay. The operator's own room table runs far more city-view keys than river-view ones, and the river is the whole reason to be in this building rather than a French Quarter courtyard house. Ask for a Premier River-View Room or better; a city room at a similar rate is a different hotel.

We book it for clients who want a modern room and a real view instead of wrought iron and a courtyard, and we book it for the spring festival run, when the best rooms go early and the rates move hard.

Accommodations

Superior City-View Room

453–463 sq. ft. 42–43 m²

The entry category, sixty-nine keys of it, looking over the city rather than the water

Premier River-View Room

508–546 sq. ft. 47–51 m²

Twenty keys facing the Mississippi — the category we ask for first

River-View One-Bedroom Suite

813 sq. ft. 76 m²

Eleven of them: a separate living room and a bedroom that shuts, both on the river side

Presidential Suite

2,439 sq. ft. 227 m²

One in the building, and the largest key the operator lists here

Dining

Miss River

Louisiana

The signature room, ingredient-driven and pitched at New Orleans grand dining; Glen Forman is chef de cuisine

Chemin à la Mer

Steakhouse and oysters

Over the Mississippi under executive chef Donald Link — steaks and boutique oysters

Chandelier Bar

Cocktails

The lower-level centrepiece, built around a custom chandelier of 15,000 crystals

Poolside

Poolside dining

Listed by the operator as a dining venue, at the 75-foot (23-metre) crescent-shaped infinity pool

Spa & Wellness

The Spa is a beauty atelier in the New Orleans bon vivant idiom: French beauty techniques run against modern technology for instant results, always with a lagniappe of bubbles and bites. Four Seasons publishes 5,525 square feet and eight treatment rooms.

When to Go

March–May

The city at its best — French Quarter Festival and Jazz Fest fill the spring, so book months ahead

June–November

Atlantic hurricane season, peaking around mid-September; hot and humid, and the value half of the year
