The Privata Perspective

The Surf Club opened on New Year's Eve 1930; the Four Seasons only arrived in 2017. Worth separating: the history belongs to Russell Pancoast's clubhouse, and everything laid over it is Richard Meier and Joseph Dirand, built new. The address is Surfside rather than Miami Beach, a residential stretch of Collins Avenue, and that is the argument.

Seventy-seven guest rooms, small for a site this size, because most of what Meier built here is private residences. The room decides the rest. Oceanfront Rooms are the twenty-two-key category to hold out for; the entry-level Surf Club Room is 435 square feet and there are only eight of them.

We book it for clients who want Miami without South Beach, and for families who need space — the residential suites run to 2,000 square feet. November to April is the season, and Thomas Keller's Surf Club Restaurant is reserved when the room is, not on arrival.
