The Privata Perspective
The building was a secondary residence for Atik Pasha, raised in the nineteenth century beside the Sultan's summer palace, and it became a Four Seasons in June 2008. The shell is Ottoman; the hotel inside it is not. One hundred and seventy keys over four storeys around a courtyard doing the work an atrium does elsewhere.
The room decides the stay here more than usual, because the entry categories measure the same 45 square metres — Deluxe, Courtyard and Superior are identical. What separates them is the name, and the name is the outlook. Ten Palace Bosphorus Rooms run 45 to 55 square metres; sixty-five Courtyard Rooms look inward. Same footprint, different hotel.
We book it for clients who want Istanbul from the water rather than the Old City, and for whom the spa is part of the point — 2,100 square metres of hammam is not an afterthought. May to June and September to October are the windows, and Ocakbaşı's sixty outdoor seats are worth booking with the room.
