Best Time to Visit
April to early June and mid-September to late October are the two windows we push people towards, and Cappadocia is the reason. Balloon flights get airborne on more than 85% of mornings in April, May, September and October; between December and February roughly 40–50% are scrubbed for wind, fog or snow, and in January and February it is often more than half. Those same months suit Istanbul, where July and August turn humid and sit around 29–30°C while inland Cappadocia averages 31–33°C and pushes past 35°C in a hot spell. On the Aegean the meltemi blows hard from mid-July to early September, one reason September is the better beach month — the sea sits around 25°C and holds 23°C through October. Most coastal hotels close from late October until April. Ramadan runs 8 February to 8 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 March.
Insider Tips
Book Cappadocia for two nights minimum and treat the balloon as a two-morning proposition — people arrive for one sunrise, lose it to wind, and there is no second chance. Sequence it Istanbul first, then the 1hr 25min flight to Kayseri and an hour by road to the valleys, then the coast to wind down. Bodrum flights usually route back through Istanbul, so build in the connection rather than gambling on a same-day dash. Reserve rooms and balloon seats four to six months ahead for the April–May and September–October peaks. The mistake we correct most often is cramming Ephesus, Pamukkale and Cappadocia into a single week — cut one. And cross the Bosphorus by ferry; the bridges at rush hour will eat an afternoon.

When is the best time to visit Turkey?
For Istanbul, aim for April to June or September to November — mild days, long light, and thinner crowds at Hagia Sophia, with the April tulip season especially pretty. The Aegean coast around Bodrum runs May to October, warmest for swimming from June onward. July and August are hot and busy in both, so we usually steer first-timers to the shoulders.
How many days do you need in Turkey?
Seven to ten nights is the sweet spot: three or four in Istanbul for the Old City and the Bosphorus, then four or five on the Aegean at Amanruya to unwind. Istanbul alone justifies a long weekend, but pairing the city with the coast is what makes the trip, and we build the domestic flight and transfers around it.
