Capella Tufu Bay, Hainan
A Gathy resort on Tufu Bay built around a 4,257 sqm arrival water feature, with a 4,020 sqm Auriga Spa
The Privata Perspective
The largest Capella by some distance, and the one that behaves most like a conventional resort. Jean-Michel Gathy's plan runs down to Tufu Bay through a 4,257 sqm arrival water feature themed on the Maritime Silk Route, with Bill Bensley's landscaping around it — a narrative the whole resort is built on, right down to Silk Road, the domed restaurant at its centre.
The spa is the real headline: 4,020 sqm, with a snow cabin and a hammam. Two things to have straight before booking — it is in Lingshui County on Tufu Bay, roughly forty-five to fifty minutes from Sanya airport rather than in Sanya itself, and the hotel launched as Capella Sanya, so you will still see both names. It is a different property from the announced Patina Sanya.
