The Privata Perspective
Perched in terraced gardens above Portofino's storybook harbour, Splendido is the Italian Riviera at its most glamorous — a hilltop former monastery that has drawn the same families back for generations. It came out of a multi-year restoration on 7 June 2025: Martin Brudnizki reworked the building, the rooms and the restaurants, Marco Bay redrew the gardens and the saltwater pool terrace, and Dior opened its first permanent Italian spa on the second floor.
The other 2025 arrival is Villa Beatrice, a 1913 Gino Coppedè villa on its own headland taken for exclusive use — four suites plus a stone cottage, with a plunge pool and a butler. Sister to the harbourside Splendido Mare down in the village. We book the bay-facing suites, and because the hotel closes for winter without publishing its dates, we confirm the season before anything is promised.
