Best Time to Visit
Sri Lanka runs on two monsoons, so somewhere on the island is always in season. The west and south coasts and the cultural triangle are at their best from December to March — dry, sunny and ideal for Galle, the beaches of the south and the interior sites — which is also blue-whale season off Mirissa. The east coast reverses this, peaking from July to September. The hill country is cool and green year-round. For a classic Galle-and-south itinerary, December to April is the sweet spot; the shoulder weeks either side bring softer rates and thinner crowds.
