Peru
Luxury hotels, insider access, and bespoke itineraries
The Destination
Peru is South America's great cultural journey — the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the colonial grandeur of Cusco, and the Sacred Valley between them. Belmond has anchored the route for decades: Monasterio, a 1592 monastery in Cusco with oxygen-enriched rooms, and Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel at Machu Picchu itself, where guests walk into the sanctuary at dawn before the crowds arrive.
Our Recommended Properties

Sanctuary Lodge, A Belmond Hotel
Machu Picchu · $$$$$
The only hotel at Machu Picchu — beside the citadel entrance, with the ruins to yourself at dawn and dusk

Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel
Cusco · $$$$$
A 1592 monastery on Cusco's Plazoleta Nazarenas — cloistered courtyards, a gilded chapel, and oxygen-enriched rooms
Best Time to Visit
May through September is the Andean dry season — crisp, clear days ideal for the citadel and the Sacred Valley. April and October are quieter green shoulder months. The Inca Trail closes each February.
Insider Tips
Sleep at Sanctuary Lodge for at least one night — entering Machu Picchu at first light, before the valley traffic arrives, is a different experience from any day visit. We sequence Cusco first for altitude acclimatisation, with oxygen-enriched rooms at Monasterio.
