Bulgari Resort Bali Review

The resort is laid out like a Balinese village that happens to have Italian tailoring: lantern-lined stone walkways between black-thatched pavilions, gardens terraced the way the island terraces its rice fields, and a koi pond at the heart of the common areas. From the upper paths, the view drops straight down the cliff to a white cove and the reef beyond. What impressed us most was operational, not architectural. The resort was completely full during our stay, with a large private event running on top — and nothing strained. Staff appeared at the right moments, golf buggies arrived unsummoned, tables existed when they were needed. Full house is where luxury hotels crack; this one did not.

Every villa is a walled compound: carved entrance gate, garden court, and a thatched pavilion of dark timber and volcanic stone with the bed facing the ocean through full-height glass. Citterio and Viel's furniture sits alongside Balinese carvings and hand-woven textiles, and twenty years of maintenance money shows — nothing feels dated, because nothing has been allowed to. Two details defined the stay for us. First, the butler service, which was present without ever hovering — ice before it was asked for, laundry back in hours, dinner moved twice without friction. Second, Bulgari's no-signing policy: nothing to sign, nowhere, all stay. Order an espresso at the pool, a cocktail on the cliff, lunch in the villa — it simply lands on the account. It is a small operational choice that removes a hundred tiny interruptions, and once you have lived with it, every bill-folder at other resorts feels like an apology. A working desk with proper light, a full minibar drawer and daily amenities (the pastry kitchen is dangerous) round out a villa that is as liveable as it is photogenic.

The bathroom is its own black-stone pavilion: a sunken terrazzo tub at the centre, glass walls to the garden on two sides, a mosaic rain shower, and Bulgari's own amenities presented in lacquered boxes rather than plastic. The scale is generous enough that the tub is a destination, not a fixture — drawn baths with salts appeared as part of turndown.

Outside, a covered living bale faces the private infinity pool, with the ocean as the third wall. Our villa's terrace also carried two soaking tubs — one heated, one kept at ambient temperature — which turned out to be the perfect end to a surf-watching evening. The outdoor spaces are where the villa earns long stays: morning coffee in the bale, work with the horizon in view, and the pool at villa scale rather than plunge scale.

We toured The Three Bedroom Mansion, one of five mansions that sit alongside the 59 villas, and it changes the conversation entirely: this is a private estate inside the resort. A full living pavilion under a crystal chandelier, a formal dining room, a proper kitchen with its own service entrance for staff, a dressing corridor, media room, and a long private pool wrapped in gardens with the ocean beyond. For multi-generation families, or two couples travelling together, the mansion solves the usual Bali dilemma — villa privacy versus hotel service — by refusing to choose. It books far ahead; this is one to plan seasons out, not weeks.

The food was uniformly excellent — resort-wide, not just at the flagship. Breakfast arrives with the pastry kitchen's full ambition (down to a Bulgari-sealed chocolate cake that has no business existing at breakfast), and room service on the villa terrace holds the same standard as the restaurants. The flagship is Il Ristorante – Niko Romito, which opened in May 2025 when the three-Michelin-starred chef's partnership with Bulgari took over from Luca Fantin's decade-long tenure. It seats around two dozen guests, dinner only, beside a cliffside reflection pool — and it was the best Italian meal we have had in Indonesia. Sangkar carries the Indonesian side with equal seriousness, and The Bvlgari Bar now hosts a summer Pizza Bar by Roman pizzaiolo Pier Daniele Seu, added in June 2026. Turndown comes with its own ritual — a flask of warm herbal tea and sweets on black lacquer — which sums up the food philosophy: nothing at this resort is an afterthought.

The main pool was reborn in late 2025 as the Serpenti Pool Club — an adults' pool club in the brand's serpent-scale patterning, hanging over the cliff with the coral-coloured umbrellas that have become the resort's signature from above. A gelato cart works the deck through the afternoon; the espresso is Italian-standard; and because children have their own pool at the Little Gems Club, the deck keeps its calm even when the resort is full. The deck's far corner, by the frangipani trees, has in our view the single best view on the property — worth claiming early on a full-house day.

The beach is the highlight of the property. Access is by the resort's own inclinator — a glass funicular carriage, Bulgari-cushioned, that slides down the cliff face — and the ride itself is a small event. At the bottom: a guests-only white-sand cove framed by the reef, with loungers, umbrellas and bar service under the cliff. During our stay the team told us a beach-level pool and a new beach restaurant open in the coming month — the kind of investment we like to see: the resort keeps adding facilities without adding a single key, which is the opposite of how most of Bali is developing. It will make the cove a full day-destination rather than a beautiful excursion.

The Bvlgari Spa receives you inside an antique joglo — a carved Javanese noble house relocated to the cliff piece by piece — which sets the register: Balinese tradition, Italian polish. Treatment pavilions face a lantern-lined water court, there is a dedicated spa pool with the same horizon as everything else here, and a stone yoga pavilion opens to the ocean for morning sessions. Families are handled with the same intent. The Little Gems Club, added in 2024, is a proper kids' club — Serpenti-themed play, its own pool — and its existence is what lets the main pool stay adults-only without friction. La Galleria, the boutique, carries the resort-exclusive pieces, and the activities programme leans cultural: Balinese painting, offerings, cooking rather than filler.

Bulgari Resort Bali was the strongest performance of our Bali trip, and the margin was clearest under pressure: full occupancy, a private event in-house, and service that never dropped a beat from arrival to departure. Add the no-signing policy, a butler team that reads guests correctly, dining that is excellent at every level from breakfast to Niko Romito, and the inclinator down to a private cove that is about to gain a pool and restaurant of its own — and you have a resort operating at the very top of the island.
