Kauri Cliffs sits on 6,000 acres of Northland coast. Its David Harman course is a par-72, 7,139-yard layout with Pacific views from fifteen holes, six of them played alongside the ocean cliffs. The estate counts three private beaches, and on Pink Beach, a rare pink-shell beach, a personal chef grills seafood or lamb for al fresco dinners.
Rooms run from the 56 m² Ocean View Junior Suite up through two- and four-bedroom villas. The larger villa has its own 25 ft saltwater pool, the smaller a private infinity pool and jacuzzi, and the property's own fact sheet counts 22 suites and four villas. The Spa sits in totara forest with a sauna, jacuzzi and heated lap pool, and an outdoor infinity pool looks over the golf course to the ocean. Away from the course, horse rides at Kauri Station run through native forest and a working farm to private beaches, and surf lessons run at Little Takou or Matauri Bay.
We pair it with Rosewood's other two New Zealand lodges, Cape Kidnappers in Hawke's Bay and Matakauri on Lake Wakatipu, for the full circuit. For golfers we book Kauri Cliffs first, since the course is the reason to fly this far north. The Pink Beach dinner is worth arranging before you land.
