NIHI Sumba
Twice named the best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure — 28 villas on wild Sumba, home to the surfers' holy grail of Occy's Left and the Sumba Foundation
The Privata Perspective
The resort that redefined what luxury means. On the wild island of Sumba — an hour's flight from Bali, and a century from it in spirit — NIHI grew from the legendary Nihiwatu surf camp into the hotel Travel + Leisure named the best in the world two years running (2016 and 2017). Owner Chris Burch and hotelier James McBride kept its soul: the fabled left-hand wave, Occy's Left, still limited to a handful of surfers a day; horses that gallop the beach at dawn; and the Sumba Foundation, through which the resort funds clean water, health and education across the island. Luxury with a purpose, and still one of the hardest bookings in Asia — we secure the villas and the wave slots early.
