The Privata Perspective

Mandarin Oriental, Milan opened in 2015 in four eighteenth-century buildings restored by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, with its entrance on quiet Via Andegari, a few steps from La Scala. One of the four, the late-Baroque Palazzo Confalonieri, was a meeting point for the revolutionaries of 1821 against the Austrian occupation. Before the hotel the buildings housed a bank, and the coats of arms of the Lombard provinces are still on the walls of the courtyard that is now the Mandarin Garden.

There are 104 keys, 68 rooms and 36 suites and junior suites, each with its own layout, and the views split between courtyard and city. Ask for a top-floor Deluxe Room if the spires of the Duomo matter, or a Terrace Suite, whose terrace runs the full length of the suite. The Fornasetti and Designer suites are tributes to Piero Fornasetti and Gio Ponti.

We book it for clients who want serious cooking without leaving the building. Seta holds two MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 Italy guide under Antonio Guida, the Mandarin Garden serves from breakfast until 1am, and Michelin's 2025 hotel selection gave the house Two Keys. Salone del Mobile runs 13–18 April 2027, and April rooms should be held early.
