The Privata Perspective
Rabat rarely makes a Morocco itinerary; this hotel is the reason to change that. Kasr Al Bahr means palace by the sea — an 18th-century summer residence for Sultan Moulay Slimane, later a military hospital, closed in 1999 and opened as a Four Seasons in October 2024. Eleven buildings, six historical, stand in the Royal Gardens above the Atlantic.
The room decides less here than usual: all 160 standard rooms sit in the same 37-to-44-square-metre band, so the premium buys outlook rather than space. The ocean-facing suites are where money changes the stay — the two Azur suites carry plunge pools — and above them sits the 950-square-metre Sultan’s Riad.
We book it for clients doing Morocco properly — Rabat as the calm capital before or after Marrakech — and for anyone who wants history rather than a resort. Spring and autumn are the settled months. Ocean-facing categories are requested the day the booking is confirmed, and Verdello and Flamme d’Orient are reserved with the room, not on arrival.
