The Privata Perspective
Kuda Huraa is the closer of the two Four Seasons islands in the Maldives — North Malé Atoll, not Baa. It opened in May 1998 and reopened in September 2006, which is why a resort of that vintage does not feel like one. Ninety-six villas, and almost every category carries a private pool.
The choice that decides the stay is beach against water. The Sunrise and Sunset Beach Villas with Pool put a modest interior behind an enormous garden — 285 m² of exterior against 70 m² inside — while the Water Villas hold the same interior out over the lagoon. Families take the two-bedroom water suites.
We book Kuda Huraa for families and for surfers, and for couples who want the Maldives close to Malé rather than an atoll further out. November to April is the calm, clear stretch; May to October brings the swell. Treatments on the spa island and lessons with the Tropicsurf pros both need booking with the villa.
