The Privata Perspective

Four Seasons opened in Cartagena in April 2026, and what it took over is the argument: a group of historic buildings in Getsemaní, restored across years, among them the 1920s Club Cartagena and a site that held the Iglesia de la Veracruz and later the Teatro Cartagena. François Catroux led the interiors, and did not live to see the hotel open.

The building you sleep in decides the stay. Twenty-seven of the 131 accommodations are colonial in character, set inside the heritage fabric, and they read as a different hotel from the contemporary rooms — Colonial, Grand Deluxe Colonial and Grand Premier Colonial are the categories to name. A terrace is the other lever: several Deluxe and Premier rooms carry one.

We book it for clients giving Cartagena its own week rather than a cruise afternoon, and for the dry months from December through March, when the old town walks well after dark. The colonial rooms are few, so we ask at the moment of booking.

Accommodations

Superior Room

34–39 m² 366–420 sq. ft.

Forty-three of them, the base contemporary category and the largest single block in the house

Deluxe Room with Terrace

33–41 m² 355–441 sq. ft.

Twenty of them; the terrace is the reason to take one, because the printed size band overlaps the rooms without

Grand Premier Colonial Room

52–57 m² 560–614 sq. ft.

Four only, and the largest of the colonial room categories inside the heritage buildings

Catroux Suite

295 m² 3,175 sq. ft. of indoor-outdoor space

One only, the hotel's specialty suite, named for the designer — the operator counts indoor and outdoor space together

Dining

El Palmar

International & Caribbean-Latin

The first restaurant on the operator's own list; the food and beverage concepts across the hotel came from SBM Interior Design and AvroKO

The Grand Grill

Steakhouse

The steakhouse, and one of only four rooms the operator files as a restaurant rather than a lounge

Pizzeria Della Chiesa

Italian

The Italian room; the hotel's site takes in the former Iglesia de la Veracruz, later the Teatro Cartagena

Bar Lelarge

Cocktails, International & Local Tapas

Cocktails and tapas, filed by the operator under lounges rather than restaurants

El Aljibe

Cocktails Tasting Experience

Published as a tasting experience rather than a walk-in bar, so we reserve it when the room is confirmed

Spa & Wellness

Umari Spa runs to six treatment rooms, one of them an oversized couples' suite with its own lounge area, large bathtub and shower. Facial and body treatments draw on local plants and fruits. No overall spa size is published, so none is stated.

When to Go

Dec–Mar

Dry season — the walkable months, and the busiest

Sep–Nov

The rainiest stretch, but quieter streets and softer rates
