Amankora

Five intimate lodges across Bhutan's western and central valleys — a journey through a kingdom

The Privata Perspective

The only way to experience Bhutan at this level of intimacy and depth. Amankora is not one hotel but five lodges scattered across the kingdom's most significant valleys — Thimphu (the capital), Punakha (the ancient winter capital), Paro (gateway to the Tiger's Nest), Gangtey (home of the black-necked cranes), and Bumthang (the spiritual heartland). The experience is inseparable from Bhutan itself.

Kerry Hill designed each lodge to reflect its valley's character while maintaining a consistent material palette of local stone, rammed earth, and timber. The Paro lodge sits in a blue-pine forest with views of the Paro Dzong. The Punakha lodge overlooks rice paddies and the Mo Chhu river. The Gangtey lodge commands sweeping views of the Phobjikha Valley where endangered black-necked cranes winter.

Aman arranges the entire journey — guides, vehicles, permits, monastery visits, and inter-lodge transfers — creating a seamless circuit through one of the world's last truly unspoiled kingdoms. Private audiences with monks, archery contests with local villagers, and dawn hikes to the Tiger's Nest monastery before other visitors arrive are among the experiences that make Amankora singular in the Aman portfolio.

Lodge Dining

Bhutanese-International

Each lodge serves cuisine reflecting its valley's traditions — Paro features Bhutanese red rice and ema datshi, Bumthang offers buckwheat specialities, and Punakha highlights river fish and chili-laced stews

Spa & Wellness

Hot-stone baths — heated river stones placed in water infused with artemisia leaves — are a quintessential Bhutanese healing tradition offered at each lodge. Traditional Bhutanese massage using herbal oils, meditation sessions led by practising monks, and mountain yoga on open-air platforms complete the wellness offering. The Thimphu lodge has the most extensive spa facilities, while Gangtey offers dawn meditation overlooking the crane valley.
