The Destination
Fiji delivers the South Pacific at its warmest — 333 islands scattered across the tropics, luminous reefs, and a culture of welcome no other archipelago in the region quite matches. It is also one of the easiest long-haul beach destinations to reach, with direct flights from Los Angeles, Sydney and Auckland converging on Nadi before a short hop to the islands.
At the top of the market, Six Senses Fiji brings the brand's sustainability and wellness signatures to Malolo Island in the Mamanucas, a quick boat or seaplane transfer from Nadi. The resort runs largely on solar power with rainwater capture and its own organic gardens, and its 24 pool villas are matched by multi-bedroom residences — the largest resort-residence collection in Fiji — equally suited to honeymooners and families. Dining runs from reef fish and kokoda at Tovolea to plant-forward menus at the Teitei farm, and the Six Senses Spa adds Fijian bobo massage and sleep programmes.
Fiji is the uncomplicated South Pacific, but the details still reward an advisor. We match the right villa or residence to your party, pair a week of barefoot calm with a night or two further out in the Yasawas by private charter, and add preferred-partner benefits — resort credits, breakfast, and upgrades when available — at the same rate you would pay booking direct.
Best Time to Visit
May to October is Fiji's dry season and the stretch we book most: daytime highs around 26-28°C, lower humidity, and June to August the driest months of the year — Nadi averages barely 50mm of rain in July. Those same winter months bring the best water — visibility on the Mamanuca reefs off Malolo can reach 30 metres — and the southwest swell that makes Cloudbreak famous, roughly April through October. Manta rays feed in the Yasawa channels on the high tides from May to October. May and October are the value months: still largely dry, noticeably cheaper. Cyclone season runs November to April, with January to March the riskiest window, though rain in those months tends to arrive in short heavy bursts rather than washed-out days. Early July overlaps the Australian and New Zealand school holidays, so book that fortnight early.
Insider Tips
Time your inbound flight, not your resort nights — that is the whole trick. Six Senses runs scheduled speedboats from Port Denarau at 7.30am, 11am, 2.30pm and 6pm, so it is a late-evening landing at Nadi, not a mid-afternoon one, that costs you a night at Denarau before you ever see the island — and we confirm the day's departures before we hold the flight. The 11-hour nonstop from Los Angeles lands around 6am, which works perfectly; late arrivals from Asia rarely do. From Port Denarau the speedboat is about 35 minutes, or 10 to 15 minutes by helicopter if you would rather skip the water. Resist island-hopping. People try to stitch the Mamanucas, the Yasawas and the Coral Coast into ten days and spend most of it on boats — one base with day trips out is better. Fiji is malaria-free, and Sundays are quiet by custom, so plan excursions around it.
Frequently Asked
When is the best time to visit Fiji?
May through October is the dry season — sunny days, low humidity, and calm, clear seas for diving and sailing. November through April is warmer and greener, with short afternoon showers, quieter resorts and better value. Fiji is a year-round destination, so the real choice is between peak-season sunshine and green-season value.
How many days do you need in Fiji?
Seven nights suits a first trip, enough to settle fully into island time at one resort. With direct flights into Nadi and a short transfer to Malolo, you lose little time in transit. For honeymooners we often add a night or two in the more remote Yasawas by private charter, which pushes the trip to nine or ten.
How do you get to Six Senses Fiji?
It sits on Malolo Island in the Mamanucas, a short boat transfer or scenic seaplane hop from Nadi International Airport — itself served by direct flights from Los Angeles, Sydney and Auckland. We time the international arrival to the island transfers so the connection is seamless rather than an overnight in Nadi.
What are the best luxury resorts in Fiji?
Six Senses Fiji on Malolo Island leads the field: 24 solar-powered pool villas and the largest resort-residence collection in Fiji, with organic-farm dining at Teitei, reef-to-table menus at Tovolea, and a Six Senses Spa. It suits honeymooners and families equally, which is rare among the region's top resorts.
Is a luxury travel advisor worth it for Fiji?
You pay the same nightly rate as booking direct and gain preferred-partner benefits — resort credits, breakfast, and upgrades when available. Beyond that we match the right villa or residence to your party, sequence any island-hopping in the Yasawas by private charter, and handle the transfers so your arrival flows straight through Nadi to the beach.
