Raffles Bali Review

Thirty-two villas on twenty-three hectares is an extraordinary ratio, and you feel it immediately: no corridors, no crowds, no sense of neighbours at all — just a green hillside folding down toward Jimbaran Bay, with villas hidden in the planting. Arrival is a young coconut and a cool towel, and then the defining feature of the property takes over: a Raffles Butler assigned to your villa, who within a day was anticipating rather than responding. That is the theme of the review, so let us make the point once and completely. Over our stay, the service was flawless in a way we can count on one hand across years of travel: names remembered by every team member, preferences carried from breakfast to turndown without being repeated, requests resolved before they became requests. Raffles launched its Emotional Wellbeing programme at this property, and something of that intent shows in how the staff read people. It is the resort's crown jewel, and it is not close.

Our villa was the Ocean Front Two Bedroom Pool Villa, and it lives like a private house: a full living and dining pavilion under a woven ceiling, a kitchen behind it, a bar with a stocked welcome drawer, and two proper bedroom suites — the master facing the ocean, the second with its own bathroom — plus a guest powder room and a dressing corridor built for real luggage. The finish level is high everywhere: dark timber against travertine, Balinese carvings placed like gallery pieces, and glass walls that fold away until the living room and the terrace become one space. For two couples, or a family with older children, this category turns a hotel stay into a household — with the butler running it.

The villa's infinity pool runs the width of the terrace, aimed at the bay, with a thatched dining bale to one side and loungers under an umbrella on the other. Sunset from this terrace — the fishing fleet's lights coming on across Jimbaran below — is the image of the stay we will keep. Every villa on the estate has a private pool; the ocean-front rows simply add the water view. Even the hilltop categories keep long sight-lines to the sea.

We also inspected the One Bedroom Pool Villa — the entry category, which comes in Ocean, Panoramic and Hilltop view tiers. It carries the same design language at house scale: a bedroom pavilion with a batik-panelled headboard wall, a marble bathroom with a freestanding tub, a walk-in wardrobe, an outdoor shower in a bamboo court, and its own pool with a dining bale. For couples, this is one of the most complete one-bedroom products in Bali, and the estate's privacy means it feels like considerably more than its key count suggests.

The spa continues the privacy-first logic: twin-bed treatment rooms in warm stone, a robe-and-tea ritual before anything begins, and therapists of real skill. The property's signature is The Sanctuary — a secluded open-air treatment bale on the hillside with the bay below — and this was the launch resort for Emotional Wellbeing by Raffles, complete with Wellbeing Butlers who can shape a stay around rest rather than a schedule. It suits the resort's character: this is not a see-and-be-seen property, it is a disappear-and-recover one.

A stone path winds from the bottom of the estate down to the resort's own quiet stretch of sand — and honesty matters here, because this is a beach to walk, not a beach to spend the day on. There are no loungers and no service at the bottom, and the water over the rocky shallows is not really for swimming. Taken on those terms, it earns its place: on most mornings you will have the entire shore to yourself, which almost nowhere in southern Bali can still say. The swimming belongs to your villa pool; the beach is for a barefoot hour with nobody else in sight.

The flagship is Rumari, at the top of the estate: progressive Indonesian cooking under chef Gaetan Biesuz, with most produce sourced within the archipelago, and a place on the World's 50 Best Discovery list. It deserves the reputation — book it for a sunset table. Down the hill, Loloan relaunched in July 2026 as a coastal-Peruvian concept — ceviches and a live grill by the water — and The Writers Bar carries the brand's heritage with a serious cocktail list and that view. Afternoon tea, served in the villa or on the terrace, is done with full Raffles ceremony and became our daily fixture. The honest note: breakfast was the weakest part of the stay. It is perfectly pleasant, but the range and kitchen ambition sit a clear step below the villa product and the service around it — noticeable at this level, and doubly so after Bulgari. It is the one thing we would tell the resort to fix tomorrow.

Raffles Bali is the service benchmark of the island. The estate's privacy is real — 32 villas where others fit ten times that — the two-bedroom villa lives like a home with staff, the spa understands rest better than almost anywhere, and the butlers deliver the kind of anticipatory care that most resorts only describe in brochures.
