Four Seasons Sharm El Sheikh opened in May 2002 and remains the benchmark on the Sinai coast. Hill/Glazier drew it as a terraced Arabesque village climbing the hillside above the Red Sea, and two funiculars carry guests from the peak down through the palm gardens to a kilometre of private beach.
Two hundred and eighty-nine keys is a large resort, and the room decides how it feels. The Superior Palm-View Room and the Deluxe Sea-View Room are the same seventy square metres, so the premium buys the water and nothing else; we book sea view, or we move up to a suite. The Palace, at 565 square metres, is the largest key on the property.
We book it for divers and for families who want a full-service resort rather than a barefoot one, and as the last chapter after Cairo and Luxor. October to April is the window, and the airport is ten minutes away, which matters after a week of temples.
