The Privata Perspective
The Ritz opened in 1959 and has been a Four Seasons only since 1998 — worth knowing, because the building and its art are Portuguese mid-century and the operator is laid over them. It faces Eduardo VII Park, fifteen minutes from the centre, and holds one of the country's largest privately-owned collections of mid-twentieth-century Portuguese art.
The view decides the stay. Park-view rooms are 49 m2 and city-view rooms 42 m2, at every tier from Superior upwards, and we book park-facing first: the seven square metres matter far less than what sits outside the window. OITOEMPONTO redesigned the rooms and suites in 2021; the public rooms are still Henri Samuel's.
We book it for clients who want a grand-hotel address rather than a converted palace, and for anyone who will use the rooftop running track. Spring and early autumn are the windows. CURA is small, and we reserve it when the room is confirmed rather than on arrival.
