The Privata Perspective
Four Seasons Koh Samui opened in February 2007 on the island's northwestern tip, on a former orchard that kept 856 coconut trees. Bensley Design Studios did both architecture and interiors, and the resort holds 71 keys — 60 pool villas and 11 private residence rentals — above the only private beach on Samui.
Almost every villa shares the same 103-square-metre footprint, so the decision is not floor area but where on the hillside it sits and what the infinity pool looks at. Island Ocean and Serenity are the two big blocks; the Family Pool Villa runs to 118, and the two Beach Villas with Pool are the largest of the sixty at 125.
We book Samui for honeymoons and for families who want a villa rather than a room, and for the January-to-April dry stretch on this coast. The Gulf's rain arrives late in the year, which is worth knowing if you are comparing Samui with Phuket. Villa positions are requested when the booking is confirmed, not on arrival.
