Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay
A 1993 Balinese village of 147 courtyard villas overlooking Jimbaran's golden shores, with more than 300 Hindu shrines across its grounds
The Privata Perspective
Jimbaran Bay opened in June 1993, and it is still the resort that showed Bali what a villa hotel could be. There is no room block: 147 villas, each a set of pavilions inside its own courtyard wall with a plunge pool, stepped down the island's southwestern tip above Jimbaran's golden shores. More than 300 palinggih — Hindu shrines, one of them 15th-century — stand in the grounds.
Read the published sizes carefully. The operator quotes indoor and outdoor space combined, so a 180-square-metre Garden Villa is not a 180-square-metre room. What the money buys here is orientation: fifty-two Garden Villas sit back in the gardens, thirty Premier Ocean Villas face the water, and that single choice decides the stay.
We book it for honeymooners, for families who want a courtyard wall rather than a connecting door, and for anyone pairing the coast with Sayan up in Ubud. April to October for the sunsets. Sundara and the spa get reserved when the villa does, not on arrival.
