Capella Singapore
A thirty-acre Sentosa headland where two restored 1880s colonial buildings meet a Foster + Partners crescent, with three cascading pools running down to the sea
The Privata Perspective
The hotel that established Capella, and still the clearest statement of what the brand does: a serious piece of architecture on a serious piece of land. Foster + Partners wrapped a curving contemporary wing around two restored Tanah Merah bungalows from the 1880s, and André Fu re-did the rooms in 2020–21, so the interiors read newer than the opening date suggests.
It is on Sentosa rather than in the city, which is the point — you are twenty minutes from the CBD in a rainforest estate with peacocks on the lawn. Auriga holds Forbes Five-Star in its own right, and the hotel has held Five-Star for fourteen consecutive years. Worth knowing before you book: this is a resort, so pick it when you want the island, not when you need to be in meetings all week.
