Alila Villas Uluwatu
WOHA's clifftop landmark on the Bukit Peninsula — 65 pool villas above the Indian Ocean, and the first resort in Indonesia designed to EarthCheck's standard
The Privata Perspective
The hotel that put Uluwatu on the design map — and, for a 2009 opening, so well maintained it still reads as contemporary. Sixty-five pool villas in local limestone and recycled ironwood run along a clifftop plateau on Bali's Bukit Peninsula, with the famous cabana bar floating over the edge. We reviewed it in 2026: the architecture, view and dining hold up superbly; the villas run smaller than the newer clifftop names, and the beach — several hundred steps down, with no lift — is scenery rather than a place you will swim. Book it as a design-led clifftop stay, ideally paired with a beach or Ubud property.
