Madagascar
Luxury hotels, insider access, and bespoke itineraries
The Destination
Madagascar is the Indian Ocean's last great frontier — an island-continent that split from the mainland tens of millions of years ago and evolved a world found nowhere else: lemurs, chameleons, spiny forests and avenues of giant baobabs. For most of its history it had the wildlife but not the luxury. That changed with one extraordinary address.
Miavana by Time + Tide occupies Nosy Ankao, the largest island of a remote archipelago off the far north-east coast, reached only by the resort's own helicopters. Its 14 vast beachfront villas — by the architects behind the Seychelles' North Island — anchor the 'blue safari': diving and kiting on untouched reefs by day, lemur walks and turtle-nesting beaches at the edge of the forest. It is one of the wildest, most exclusive stays on earth.
Madagascar rewards travellers who treat it as an expedition with a very comfortable base camp. We arrange the helicopter transfers, pair the island with a Nosy Be or mainland nature extension for the lemurs and baobabs, and handle the logistics that make a remote itinerary feel effortless.
Best Time to Visit
April through November is the long dry season and the prime window — clear skies, calm seas for diving and kiting, and comfortable temperatures. Humpback whales pass through July to September. The cyclone season (roughly January to March) is best avoided for the islands; December can be beautiful but humid.
Insider Tips
Fly into Nosy Be or Diego Suarez and let Miavana's helicopter do the rest — the 30–60 minute flight over reefs and rainforest is one of travel's great arrivals. Give the island five nights minimum: the blue safari deserves unhurried days, and the turtle beaches reward patience. We time the trip to the whale season when dates allow.
Frequently Asked
What is the best luxury resort in Madagascar?
Miavana by Time + Tide, without rival — a private-island resort on Nosy Ankao off the north-east coast, reached only by helicopter. Its 14 beachfront villas are among the largest in the Indian Ocean, and the 'blue safari' programme pairs world-class diving and kiting with lemur walks and turtle-nesting beaches.
When is the best time to visit Madagascar?
April through November — the long dry season — for diving, kiting and clear skies, with humpback whales passing July to September. Avoid the cyclone season from roughly January to March.
How do you get to Miavana?
By the resort's own helicopters: about 30 minutes from Diego Suarez or an hour from Nosy Be, flying over reefs and rainforest. We coordinate international connections through Nosy Be or Antananarivo so the joins are seamless, and can add a mainland nature extension for the baobabs and lemur reserves.
