Arrival at Six Senses Samui is designed as a moment of transition. You are welcomed by the resort team in a truly arresting natural setting, where sweeping sea views immediately establish a sense of seclusion and calm. A chilled towel and a freshly prepared welcome juice are offered, accompanied by a handwritten note delicately presented on a leaf—an understated but thoughtful touch that reflects the brand's attention to detail. Check-in itself is conducted effortlessly and discreetly, allowing guests to remain present in the experience rather than focused on formalities. Shortly thereafter, you are escorted by one of the resort's electric buggies to your villa. These buggies operate throughout the property and are available on request at any time, providing a comfortable and efficient way to navigate the resort's expansive grounds and hilly terrain, while still allowing guests to enjoy the lush surroundings without effort.

Upon entering the villa, the sense of space is immediately apparent. The interiors feel generous and calm, with natural materials and light creating an atmosphere that is both grounded and effortlessly luxurious. Notably, Six Senses appears to have evolved its design language over the years. The bright yellows, oranges, and greens the brand was once strongly associated with have largely given way to softer beige and neutral tones. The result is more understated and visually soothing—less striking, perhaps, but also more refined. It feels like a brand maturing, prioritising timelessness over bold expression. Six Senses Samui is an all-villa resort comprising just 67 private villas, a scale that ensures a consistent sense of privacy and tranquillity throughout the property. Even during our stay at full occupancy, the resort never felt crowded—an achievement in itself. There are several villa categories across the resort, thoughtfully positioned along the hillside and headland. Our stay was in a Hideaway Villa, which, despite its name, still offers pleasing sea views framed by lush tropical vegetation. The setting provides a strong sense of seclusion while maintaining a visual connection to the Gulf of Thailand, striking a balance between privacy and openness that defines the Six Senses experience.

The wellness facilities at Six Senses Samui are thoughtfully grouped within a dedicated area of the resort, bringing together the spa, gym, and a yoga pavilion. Each morning, the pavilion hosts guided yoga sessions led by an in-house instructor, offering a tranquil start to the day surrounded by nature. Six Senses' reputation in wellness is well established, and the spa here fully lives up to that legacy. A single visit rarely feels sufficient; the experience is best approached as an essential part of the stay rather than an optional indulgence. Treatment rooms are discreetly positioned to maximise privacy, and from almost every vantage point, sweeping sea views reinforce a deep sense of calm and connection to the landscape. The spa menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, ranging from traditional therapies to more holistic and restorative treatments. Execution is exceptional throughout, making the spa one of the defining highlights of the resort. The gym, while relatively compact, is well equipped and more than adequate for most guests' training needs. It prioritises functionality over scale and benefits, like much of the property, from an open, light-filled setting that keeps the experience pleasant rather than enclosed.

The main pool is a striking, generously scaled infinity pool that appears to merge seamlessly with the horizon. Its size allows guests to spread out comfortably, and even during busier periods the area never feels crowded. Hammocks, loungers, and shaded pockets are thoughtfully positioned throughout, ensuring privacy and a relaxed atmosphere rather than a typical resort pool scene. With uninterrupted sea views and ample space to unwind, the pool becomes a natural focal point of the resort—equally suited to quiet afternoons or sunset hours.

The main bar is strategically positioned near the breakfast area and adjacent to the main infinity pool, making it a natural gathering point throughout the day. Fully stocked and professionally run, it comes into its own in the late afternoon, when it becomes one of the resort's most appealing vantage points for sunset. Sipping a well-crafted cocktail as the sky shifts colours over the Gulf of Thailand is one of the resort's simple but memorable pleasures.

The resort enjoys access to a semi-private beach, with the resort's area clearly defined and reserved loungers available exclusively for in-house guests. While the beach restaurant is open to outside visitors, the atmosphere remains calm and well managed, preserving a sense of exclusivity for those staying at the resort. The beach itself is particularly appealing: naturally beautiful, clean, and—importantly—swimmable year-round. Unlike some beaches on Koh Samui that become difficult or inaccessible during low tide, this stretch maintains good water access throughout the seasons.

Just steps from the sand, the beach restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience. The menu is broad and approachable, ranging from light options such as tacos to freshly prepared catch of the day. Service is prompt, flavours are well balanced, and the setting encourages lingering lunches with the sound of the sea close by. Nearby, the beachside infinity pool mirrors the calm elegance of the main pool above. Overlooking the shoreline and only moments from the water's edge, it offers an alternative setting for guests who prefer a coastal atmosphere and alternate between the beach and pool.

Dining on the Rocks is the resort's signature restaurant and one of its most visually arresting spaces. Set dramatically above the sea, the restaurant offers a curated set menu designed to complement its extraordinary setting. The views are nothing short of spectacular—so much so that they require little explanation.

Breakfast strikes an excellent balance between variety and quality. Guests can choose from an extensive à la carte menu alongside a well-executed buffet, offering both indulgent and health-focused options. Ingredients feel fresh and thoughtfully sourced, and service is attentive without being intrusive. Notably, the kitchen is more than willing to accommodate requests beyond the printed menu, reinforcing the resort's flexible, guest-centric approach.

A defining element of the Six Senses philosophy is its connection to sustainability, and the on-site farm brings this ethos to life. The farm supplies fresh herbs, vegetables, and animal products—they have ducks, chickens and goats!—used throughout the resort's kitchens, grounding the dining experience. Guests are encouraged to visit, offering a deeper appreciation of where the food comes from and how it is grown. It is a quiet but meaningful touch that reinforces Six Senses' commitment to conscious luxury.

Rather than a traditional kids' club or playground, Six Senses Samui offers a modestly sized game room designed for relaxed, informal entertainment. While compact, the space is well considered and includes a pool table and a ping-pong table, providing a casual option for guests of different ages.

Six Senses Samui offers one of the strongest value propositions among luxury resorts on Koh Samui. Having stayed at six of the island's most highly regarded properties, this remains a place we consistently return to—this being our second stay. Its appeal lies not in excess, but in balance: privacy, space, and a clear sense of purpose. The resort is easily accessible, with a short flight of approximately 45 minutes from Bangkok and direct connections from destinations such as Phuket, Hong Kong, and Singapore, making it remarkably convenient for a true escape without logistical friction. Facilities are thoughtfully designed and well maintained, and even at full occupancy the resort never feels busy or overstretched. This sense of calm is central to the experience. Guests should not expect overt opulence—there is no marble-heavy décor, no parade of exotic luxury ingredients, nor a focus on excess. Instead, Six Senses prioritises eco-conscious design, wellness-driven experiences, and a more grounded, natural form of luxury. Koh Samui itself is an exceptional destination for disconnecting from routine, and Six Senses Samui amplifies that feeling with ease.
