Aman at Summer Palace
Within the grounds of Beijing's UNESCO-listed Summer Palace
The Privata Perspective
The only hotel in the world set within the grounds of a UNESCO-listed imperial palace. Aman at Summer Palace occupies a series of centuries-old pavilions adjacent to Beijing's magnificent Yiheyuan — the Summer Palace of the Qing Dynasty emperors — that have been meticulously restored and furnished with Ming and Qing-dynasty antiques under the supervision of China's heritage authorities.
The privilege of staying here extends far beyond architecture. Guests can walk the palace grounds after closing time, when the Long Corridor, the Marble Boat, and Kunming Lake are empty of visitors — an experience that no amount of money can normally buy. Watching the sunset paint the lake gold from the Seventeen Arch Bridge, in complete solitude, is one of travel's most extraordinary private moments.
The 51 rooms are arranged around traditional Chinese courtyards planted with ancient scholar trees, creating a series of intimate, sequestered spaces that reference the residential compounds of imperial Beijing. Despite the property's proximity to the city's northwest ring road, the thick palace walls and mature gardens create remarkable tranquillity.
